Idols

This Message Audio:

Idols

Idol- any person or thing regarded with blind admiration, adoration,or devotion

I.               God is the only Living and Life giving God.

A.  God knows that other gods enslave while he brings freedom

1a. Exodus 20:1-6 And God spoke all these words, saying, 2“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3You shall have no other gods before me. 4 ”You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

B.    Are we willing to wait, be patient, and trust God first?

1b. Exodus 32:1 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, ”Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” 2So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” 3So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. 4 And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” 5When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to the LORD

II.           Idols require all we have in exchange for death

A.    No matter what power we’ve given our gods, God will redeem it.

Killing Gods Prophets, Drought, Alter throw down, Baal’s 450 vs. 1 of Gods

1st kings 18: 36And at the time of the offering of the oblation, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. 37Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.” 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, “The LORD, he is God; the LORD, he is God.”

Redemption Series 1 (Baptism)

Baptism

The Bible gives us Christians an amazing charge to go out and do what Jesus did and in Matthew 28:16-20 we empowered to bring this new found faith to everyone.

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Baptism History (Mikveh - (Tub), Zav – (Living Water)

Noah, Moses, (John Baptist – Norm act), Jesus himself

Matthew 3:13-15  Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.”

I.  Public recognition of the new creation

A.  We have accountable witness (Like a wedding)

Father!” 16The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, the heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ,

Jesus Series “The Christ” Jan 26

                                                           Jesus

The name Jesus Christ has become the most significant name in the history of mankind.

I.            The Christ

A.  In Jewish Culture “The Christ” or Messiah was established in Gen 3:15 Deut 18:18

MessiahJudaism the awaited redeemer of the Jews, to be sent

by God to free them (Not physical but your person)

It was a big deal “The Christ”

When you said those words “The Christ” It meant God is Finishing it. God’s mouth piece, God Delivers us, Freedom

The Beginning of the End

A. Gen 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring (Seed) and her offspring (Seed);he shall crush your head, and you shallbruise his heel.” (Jesus will put sin to death for his human life)

           B. Deuteronomy 18:18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. (How does God Create?) Spoken Word

  The End

A.  Matthew 7:28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law (Who were in authority)

 B.   John 4:24-26 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
